Frontenacs acquire Mitchell Byrne from Otters for Priority Selections

The Kingston Frontenacs have acquired defenceman Mitchell Byrne from the Erie Otters for Kingston’s 6th round selection in 2018 and 13th round selection in 2020 of the OHL Priority Selection.

“Mitchell adds more depth to our team, and brings deep playoff experience, including last year’s Memorial Cup,” said General Manager Darren Keily.

Byrne, a 5’11”, 189 lbs. Brampton, Ontario native, was selected by the Otters in the 4th round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. He was a member of the Erie Otters team that played in the 2017 Memorial Cup tournament after winning the OHL Championship. In 140 regular season games played in the OHL with Erie, Byrne has 4 goals, 13 assists, for 17 points with a +21 and 63 PIM. His OHL playoff experience includes 33 games, including 19 last season alone.

The Frontenacs also announced rookie defenceman Evan Brand being assigned to the Kingston Voyageurs. “We felt the need to assign Evan to the Voyageurs so that he can get meaningful minutes this season. He’s got a great future with our team and this will allow him to continue his development,” said Keily.

The Kingston Frontenacs play back-to-back home games this weekend, hosting the Guelph Storm on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and the Oshawa Generals Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Rogers K-Rock Centre. The Frontenacs finish their 3-game weekend on the road in Oshawa on Sunday.
