The Kingston Frontenacs are pleased to announce they have acquired import right winger Petr Beranek from the Barrie Colts in exchange for the Ottawa 67’s third round selection in the 2013 OHL Priority selection. Beranek was originally selected 11th overall in the 2010 CHL Entry draft.
Beranek, who will be entering his sophomore season, is an 18 year old Czech forward who finished his first OHL campaign with 11 goals and 15 assist in 54 games. Previous to last season the Brno native played with Tappara in the Finnish Junior League where he played both for the U18 and U20 squads. He also appeared for the Czech National team last season at the U18 World Junior Championships.
“This was an opportunity to add a forward who has scored at every level he has played at,” said General Manager Doug Gilmour. “He had a bit of an adjustment in his first season, but we think he can be a real contributor for our Club this season. He really came into his own at the end of the season,” he added.
Training Camp opens the end of August for the Black and Gold, with the two home exhibition games slated for September 9th at 7:30 versus the Belleville Bulls and then Wednesday September 14th at 7:00 versus the Ottawa 67’s.
