Game Preview: Kingston at Sudbury

The Kingston Frontenacs (10-9-1-1) will wrap up a five-game road schedule this afternoon with an Eastern Conference matchup against the Sudbury Wolves (6-9-2-0) at Sudbury Community Arena starting at 2:05 pm. Today’s game is Kingston’s third game in four days. The matchup is the first of consecutive games against the Central Division Wolves, with a rematch this Friday, November 25th at Leon’s Centre. The clubs had a 2-2-0-0 record against each other during the 2021-22 season, with Kingston winning one of two as the visitor.

The Fronts ended a season-long three-game slide with a 5-4 shootout win over the Soo on Friday night, with Francesco Arcuri netting a pair to take over the OHL goal lead with 16 strikes on the season. Team-point leader Arcuri (22) and Maddox Callens scored in the shootout to help earn the extra point for Kingston, with Ivan Zhigalov starring on 44 saves. Rookie defender Alessandro Petreccia was called up to make his Frontenacs debut versus the Greyhounds wearing number 22. The six-foot-two, 185-pound former Don Mills Flyer was plus-one with a shot on goal.

The Wolves took a 6-3 win in the last game in Sudbury on Friday, March 4, 2022, after Kingston had grabbed a 3-1 road win in the Community Centre on Friday, February 4, 2022, with Paul Ludwinski scoring and Arcuri adding a pair of assists from currently rostered players in the win. The Black and Gold can look to take advantage of a Wolves squad struggling without a lead going winless when tied or trailing after the first and second periods.

Sudbury lost 4-3 to Barrie on Friday, November 18, in their last game that ended a three-game winning stretch following a six-game losing streak. At home, Sudbury has a .500 record (4-4-2-0) but has won three of the last four at the Community Arena, with the defeat to Barrie being the previous loss. Former Frontenac 40-goal man Martin Chromiak is the older brother of Wolves rookie defenceman Jakub Chromiak, who was the first blueliner taken at the CHL Import draft. David Goyette leads the Wolves’ offence, tied with Arcuri, with 22 points (11G,11A). Joe Ranger (462) is second in overall saves for OHL goaltenders playing the fourth-most minutes
