The Kingston Frontenacs (0-2-0-1) took to neutral ice in Cobourg, Ontario on Friday night, falling to the Peterborough Petes 4-1 (3-1-0-0). It was the third of four exhibition games and a rematch of the September 11 game at Leon’s Centre which saw the Maroon and White winning in a 2-1 shootout.
Mason Vaccari started his second game of the exhibition and he made 22 saves on 26 shots for Kingston.
In contrast to the first matchup, it was the Fronts going down the first goal and the team found themselves down three before the five-minute mark of the middle frame. Michael Simpson earned second star status in the pipes for Peterborough. The Petes goaltender made 17 saves in the opening frame alone to send the Petes to the first intermission with a 1-0 lead on an unassisted Donovan McCoy (1) shorthanded goal.
After a pair of goals by Justin Dezoate (2) and Sam McCue (2) each with their second of the preseason, Kingston would get on the board. Matthew Soto (1) made it 3-1 with just over a minute left in the second with Alec Bélanger and Chris Thibodeau earning helpers. A fairly even final period saw the Petes round out the 4-1 score with a Jax Dubois strike at 7:14. The goal gave Dubois two points and first star.
Newcomer Owen Outwater dressed in his first game for Kingston since a move from North Bay with Alessandro Petriccia also making his first appearance in a Black and Gold uniform. He played two games last season with the Windsor Spitfires. Nathan Poole led the way with five shots for Kingston.
